Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:

As you may know, the Trump administration today announced it will cease honoring the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in the coming months. Illinois Institute of Technology is enriched by the members of our community who were part of the DACA program, and we take great pride in helping all students reach their dreams.

Late last week I joined other university and business leaders in a letter calling on the president to maintain DACA and for Congress, who will now debate this issue, to codify it into law. You can read that letter here.

Information on university resources for undocumented students may be found at Illinois Tech’s One Stop web page here. The Student Health and Wellness Center will be available for students for group therapy today from 4–5 p.m. and tomorrow from 12:45–1:45 p.m. As always, students in need of immediate help can walk in at any time and be seen for a triage appointment. In addition, as we announced last academic year, more than 30 Chicago-Kent alumni have volunteered to advise or represent Illinois Tech students, faculty, and staff seeking legal assistance with immigration or other issues arising from undocumented status. All of these attorneys practice immigration law and are offering their services free of charge. If you are an undocumented member of the Illinois Tech community and need legal assistance, please contact the One Stop at 312.567.3810 or via email at onestop@iit.edu, and a staff member will connect you with an attorney from this network.

Regardless of national policy, we will always remain a university committed to valuing each individual and working together to create an environment that fosters learning for all.

Sincerely,

Alan W. Cramb
President, Illinois Institute of Technology
